Discovery Girls

Meet Patricia, a Discovery Girl from Oklahoma! This week she’s giving us a sneak peek at her photos and telling us the inside scoop about the DG photo shoot!

My best friend and I got together at my house and brought together all our scrapbooking supplies. I made a questionnaire book out of paper bags, jewels, and sequins and my friend made a butterfly-themed mini scrapbook.

Me and my best Friend Ashley...we were both picked to be Discovery Girls!

First, I glued all the paper bags together, and then I wrapped the edge with felt. I decorated the front with jewels and sequins. Next, I printed off my answers (which I made sure were long and creative!) and glued them to the sides of the paper bags. Finally, I took my pictures and put them on index cards. To top it off, I curled ribbon and tied it to the pictures. I placed the pictures in the paper bags and sent it to DG in an envelope covered with my favorite DG articles.

A month or so later, my best friend Ashley, texted me that she was picked to be a Discovery Girl! I was really excited for her because I knew that this was really important for her and she wanted it really badly. The next day, I found out I had got in too! We were really surprised and thankful we had this opportunity to be in our favorite magazine together. We ended up carpooling to the photo shoot!

I enjoyed writing the article assignments for the magazine because I love writing! It’s one of my favorite things to do, and it was even better because I knew that I would be able to share all my ideas with girls all around the country!

To prepare for the shoot, I knew I had to pick a profile picture outfit and a prop. For my profile picture, I thought I was knew what I was going to wear, but then I really looked at my closet and I had no idea! I ended up buying a cute pink frilly dress, a sweater, and an amazing belt.

For my prop, I had no idea what I was going to bring! I love all my extra-curricular activities so I narrowed it down to tennis, flute, piano, and figure skating.

I ended up bringing a pair of my old ice skates because I really feel free and like myself when I’m was ice skating!

The first day, we went bowling! I was a little uncertain at first since I am terrible at bowling, but when I met all the girls, I lightened up and forgot all about it! We had so much fun!

On our day in the studio, we got our hair and makeup done first thing. I had my hair French braided across the front, and then braided back, and finally the hair stylist wrapped it around my head, bobby-pinning it on the other side. We took profile pictures and pictures for various articles! It was awesome! I also got to take the cover pictures with my best friend, Ashley!

I couldn’t believe I was actually going to be in the magazine. The whole experience was amazing! Afterwards, I wished that we could to do it all again!
